About Us

The Gladys Ayebea Hammond Foundation (GAH Foundation) is a registered non-governmental charity in Ghana under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992). We are committed to empowering underprivileged girls by creating opportunities for social mobility through sports and education.

Our Story

Founded in November 2022, GAH Foundation was established in honour of the late Madam Gladys Ayebea Hammond. Though she did not have the opportunity for formal education, she demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to learning by ensuring all seven of her children were educated. Her belief in the life-changing power of education and sport continues to inspire our work today.

What We Do

We use sport, particularly hockey, as a tool to inspire, educate, and empower young girls. Our core programs include:

  • Competitive hockey tournaments for Senior High School (SHS) girls
  • Mentorship programs
  • Coaching and counselling
  • Apprenticeship opportunities
  • Educational scholarships

Our Impact

What began as a small initiative with 40 girls from two schools in Suhum has grown into a thriving movement:

  • Over 320 girl athletes actively engaged
  • Representation from 12 schools across 9 towns
  • More than 23,000 students impacted

Our annual hockey tournament, held every November, continues to attract increasing participation and community support each year.

Our Aim

Our primary aim is to support girls aged 13 to 18 in completing their secondary education and successfully transitioning into tertiary education and/or meaningful career pathways. We are committed to equipping young girls with the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to build brighter futures.
